How To Address Low Pressure Mixer Taps Problems

WATER PRESSURE PROBLEMS

Low pressure mixer taps are one of the most frustrating issues for a homeowner. You head to the tap and run some water, just to realise the water is running way too slow! Or, you notice the slightest dripping, quiet and brief, from your trusted kitchen tap. These issues may seem innocuous at first glance but if you are experiencing low pressure mixer taps problems, you need to address them as early as possible before you run into trouble – the explosive or flooding kind. At Priority Plus Plumbing we take great care to provide our clients with exemplary service and guarantee our work.

Assess The Area of Concern

If you are experiencing low water pressure, there may be a few things that have caused the issue. Check first to see if the issue is localised to only one tap, one room, your household, or if your entire neighbourhood is struggling with low water pressure. Depending on where the problem lies, it could be an issue with the specific tap, a pip leading to that room, a plumbing issue on your property, or a larger communal plumbing issue, respectively.

What To Do If the Issue Is in One Area of The House

If the issue is isolated to a single tap, it could be a clogged aerator. This is relatively easy to assess and address by simply unscrewing the aerator from the spout and cleaning it of any build-up. If the issue is resolved, you can carry on with your day. You can also clean the aerator using a mixture of water and vinegar or by using a limescale remover. Note that if you find yourself needing to clean the aerator frequently, it may just be time for a new one.

How To Handle a Larger Plumbing Issue

If the issue persists across your entire house, you will want to have a professional check the pressure reduction valve (PRV) or safety valve – note a faulty valve could also cause an increase in pressure.

If the issue is communal, contact your local authorities and notify them of the issue so that it can be addressed accordingly.

While the above scenarios are the most likely culprits of low water pressure, you may find that there is another cause for the issue.
